ScoutLink beat Scout Band at their own game

ScoutLink, who are Scouts with disabilities from all over the area, were guests at a mini-concert given by 1st Hook Scout and Guide Band recently at 1st Hook HQ.

ScoutLink is a group of 25 people with mental disabilities, some of whom also have physical disabilities. Their Group leader, Barry Sullivan, said that "they meet every Monday evening and take part in a range of activities, following as near as possible the ideals of the Scout movement, with some members even achieving their Chief Scout's Award".

The hour-long concert included many tunes from the Band's repertoire. Bandmaster, Ray Bridger, commented "in a move to reach more of the community, the Band decided to invite the ScoutLink Group to attend their first mini-concert, held on a Monday evening at Verona Drive, Surbiton.

Weekly activities include handicrafts, picture bingo, parachute games and an annual sports competition held over four evenings. Trips to the pantomime at Christmas and day trips during the summer to farms and zoos are enjoyed by all, this year it is hoped that the group will visit Lego Land at Windsor.

The Scouts will be taking part in the St Georges Day Parade, where 1st Hook Scout and Guide Band will lead the parade.
